Let's face it, not all of us can afford the classic cars on the most popular list, nor does everyone want to have one of those. We all have different tastes and some have a desire for a car that is more modern from the factory. Believe it or not, some of the almost classics can be as rare or hard to find as some of the most desired of the classics partly due to the fact that no one thought they would be desirable.

Through the late 70's, all the way until the early 90's, the American auto makers have produced quite a collection of limited edition or limited production cars to fill niche markets. Some were for NASCAR rules, others were for the Indianapolis 500, others for performance (for the time) and of course just limited edition models of which only a handful were built. Some of these had famous names behind them like Carroll Shelby, Greenwood or Callaway for example.

I have owned a couple and saw a number of them on the streets when they were new cars and there is a definite attraction by many to collect them. I think many classic car collectors out there may remember that a few of these were real performance cars and we are using some of the technologies from these in today's Pro-Tour and Resto-Mod builds. I am only going to focus on domestic cars for this list because I'm no expert on the foreign offerings during this era. I will list them by make and what "special" models they had that were considered limited, the years made from 1975 to 1993 will be included here.

This is a list based on my research, it may contain cars that some may feel don't belong but they are some of the special cars for this era in my opinion. I will be adding some pictures as I get time, I wanted to get a list together for those interested. Some of these cars can be found in very good condition today and reasonably priced, some have already found collectors interests and prices have risen already.
